What is a Forensic Medical Exam?

A Forensic Medical Exam, is a confidential head-to-toe physical exam with evidence collection, performed on victims of sexual assault, rape, domestic violence and strangulation. It is performed by a specially trained licensed Forensic Nurse or Nurse Practitioner.

What is a SANE Exam?

SANE stands for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner exam.

What does SAVA mean?

SAVA stands for Sexual Assault Victim Advocate. These volunteer advocates are available to offer emotional support to victims during the medical exam. They also offer information regarding available community resources.

Can I request to have a SAVA present during my exam?

Yes, you can.

What areas do you serve?

We serve Washington, Nowata and Osage counties.

How will I know if I need an exam?

If you or someone who know, has been the victim of sexual assault, rape, domestic violence, child abuse or strangulation, a Forensic Medical Exam is highly recommended.

Do I have to involve law enforcement?

If you are over the age of 18, the choice is yours whether or not you would like law enforcement interaction.

How much does it cost?

The exam is performed at no cost to the victim or their family.

What do I do if I’m sexually assaulted?

If you were sexually assaulted, raped or the victim of domestic violence, you can request a NO COST Forensic Medical Exam by calling the local CRISIS HOTLINE 918-214-8886 OR you can visit the ER at Ascension St.John Jane Phillips Hospital and request a SANE exam.
